How can a country strategically use open source to modernise administration and civil society while promoting the economy? Using specific projects and measures in Schleswig-Holstein as examples, the presentation shows how a functioning open source ecosystem can be created and further developed. The focus is on the interaction between the various players as drivers of digital sovereignty and innovation and the advantages of such a development for all involved.

Alexander leitet den DigitalHub.SH als zentraler Knotenpunkt zwischen Landesregierung, Kommunen Zivilgesellschaft und Wirtschaft. Dabei unterstützt er gemeinsam mit seinem Team die Staatskanzlei Schleswig-Holstein bei der Umsetzung der Digitalisierungsstrategie des Landes. Nach Jahren in der freien Wirtschaft fokussiert er sich derzeit besonders auf digitale Souveränität und die konsequente Nutzung sowie Förderung von Open-Source-Technologien.
Alexander heads the DigitalHub.SH, serving as a central hub between the state government, municipalities, civil society, and the business community. Together with his team, he supports the State Chancellery of Schleswig-Holstein in implementing the state’s digitalization strategy. After years in the private sector, he now focuses particularly on digital sovereignty and the consistent use and promotion of open-source technologies.
